Bracekn, stuart Clark, Brad hodge and David hussey loses Australian central Contract:

Australia culled fast bowlers Nathan Bracken and Stuart Clark on Wednesday from their roster for next season, when they will try to regain the Ashes from England and defend the World Cup.
Selectors also dropped batsmen Brad Hodge and David Hussey, and wicketkeeper Graham Manou, from the list of 25 centrally contracted players for 2010-2011 but retained veteran quick Brett Lee, despite his move to retire from Tests

Malik divorces Ayesha

Former Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik has divorced his first wife Ayesha Siddiqui, ahead of his planned marriage to Indian tennis player Sania Mirza.

Shams Babar, a friend of the Siddiqui family, said Malik had acknowledged his marriage to Ayesha despite earlier denials.

“Both Shoaib and Ayesha have signed the divorce papers today,” says Babar.

The Siddiqui family last week filed a police complaint against Malik over his plans to wed Mirza.

mumbai indians beaten by CSK

Chennai Super Kings 165 for 4 (Hayden 35, Pollard 2-27) beat Mumbai Indians 141 for 9 (Tendulkar 45) by 24 runs

Chennai Super Kings completed a sweep of their three-match home leg after the Mumbai Indians' batting fell apart in a rash of poor strokes following Sachin Tendulkar's retirement due to dehydration. On a track where 467 runs were plundered three days ago, boundaries were hard to come by and, despite being hampered by dew, Chennai easily defended their moderate total.

Tendulkar was on his haunches and breathing heavily as early as the fourth over of the chase. However, he and Shikhar Dhawan provided their customary solid start, hitting a four an over in the Powerplay to take Mumbai to 46 for 0. Dhawan chopped on Thilan Thushara's first delivery, but Mumbai progressed smoothly, if slowly, to 62 after nine overs when Tendulkar decided to retire.

After looking in control of the match till then, Mumbai imploded, losing a wicket in each of the next six overs. Ambati Rayudu was the first to go, stumped after tearing out of the crease and missing when looking to loft a short ball from Suresh Raina. When Chennai celebrated, Rayudu practised the stroke that would have served him better, a cut.

The potentially explosive Trinidad pair of Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard have done little of note with the bat all tournament, and the trend continued at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Both looked to launch the ball into the crowds beyond the sightscreen but got more height than distance on their strokes, and a pair of well-held catches sent them on their way.

In between, the promising youngster Saurabh Tiwary who had looked the most assured of the Mumbai batsmen barring Tendulkar, also perished, slogging straight to deep midwicket off the impressive Shadab Jakati, whose solid tournament continued.

R Sathish and Ryan McLaren were involved in some nervy running before Sathish was caught out by a direct hit from S Badrinath at short cover. The only wicket the bowler can take credit for in the entire collapse was McLaren's - offspinner R Ashwin trapping him lbw in front of offstump, so plumb that Chennai's appeal was more a celebration than a question. Mumbai had lurched to 92 for 7 and even the return of Tendulkar couldn't extend their winning run.

Their bowlers had done a better job earlier in the evening, shackling a powerful Chennai batting line-up. Opener M Vijay couldn't complete a hat-trick of brutal innings in front of his home crowd, bottom-edging Harbhajan Singh onto the stumps early.

Matthew Hayden is supposed to be the bruiser at the top of the Chennai line-up, but yet again he couldn't find the boundaries, dealing mainly in singles. After the lethargy in the Powerplays, Suresh Raina was just starting to catalyse the innings before failing in his attempt to clear midwicket off a short ball

Chennai were kept on their toes when Dhoni made a typical bustling start, and Hayden flicked and drove Bravo for ten runs in the next over. When Dhoni edged one past the keeper for four in the 12th over, 63 runs had come off the previous six. It was two overs later that the match swung. Pollard's slow bouncer tricked Dhoni, and Hayden's Mongoose bat wasn't enough to clear long-on off the next delivery.

The home side slid to 119 for 4, after which boundaries again proved scarce, none coming in the next four overs. Michael Hussey and S Badrinath picked off the singles but struggled to hit top gear, before some innovative strokeplay from Badrinath lifted Chennai to 165, which ultimately proved enough for their third straight win.

`My style is my strength` - Virender Sehwag

Virender Sehwag has revealed that he has no intentions of changing his aggressive style of play, irrespective of the odd failure.

"When I play a cover-drive, I play it to score runs. I don`t play a shot to get out. So, if the cover-drive ends up in a catch at slip, I am spared criticism. If it ends up in the hands at covers, I am slammed. The shot attempted has remained the same, only the mode of dismissal is different," Sehwag told the Hindu.

"My style is my strength. It is my natural game. That is how I grew up and scored most of my runs. I have matured in my shot selection but will not discard my style. I don`t believe in wasting balls," Sehwag said.

Sehwag thanked the India captains he has played under for their backing over the years. "I have been lucky to receive encouragement from all my captains [Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, Anil Kumble, MS Dhoni]. They have always insisted on having me in the team and that means a lot to me."

While he has scored runs at a fast clip - with strike-rates of 80.87 per 100 balls in Tests, and 103.51 in ODIs - Sehwag admitted that he has become more patient of late. "Sort of patient. Actually, I have become careful in my shot selection. I am neither over-defensive nor extra-aggressive.

"I curse myself if I get out without making a 100 after crossing 40. I love playing in the `V`. And I remain positive even after getting out after making just two at times. I tell myself that I took guard with nothing against my name but now I have at least two," Sehwag said.

Bowling attacks have tried to work him out over the years, by denying him room outside the off stump, and by bowling short, into his body, but Sehwag has managed to find ways to score. "It is a mind game and I am good at it. I create shots to beat the field. Run-making has become tough," Sehwag said.

Sehwag said he was aware of the thin line separating success and failure, and it boiled down to how one chose to look at things. "Half empty or half full. A cover-drive for four or disaster. Praise will come when you do well. So, be prepared for brickbats when you fail. You are learning from both. Success prepares me well for the failures," he said.

kaneria misses start of county season

Danish Kaneria will miss the start of the county season with Essex after the PCB confirmed he will instead take part in a domestic tournament in Pakistan.
Kaneria is likely to play a key role in a busy summer of international cricket for Pakistan, with two Tests against Australia scheduled for Lord`s and Headingley before a four-Test series against England. The PCB want to use the RBS Pentangular Cup in Pakistan as practice, which will take place between April 17 and 27 and involves teams from five Pakistan Provinces
It means Kaneria will not arrive in the UK until April 29 but David East, the Essex chief executive, accepted the importance of the event. "We were originally hoping to have Danish available for our first game on Friday 9th April and the delay in his arrival is obviously disappointing," he said.
"We understand that this competition will help inform the decisions of the PCB prior to their tour of England and that it is viewed as an important opportunity for all Test and ODI cricketers in Pakistan to impress the selectors. Danish is of course an important member of our side, but we must respect the primacy of the PCB and Danish`s wish to be part of this event".

surrey faces setback as chris is injured

Chris Jordan, Surrey`s highly-rated 21-year-old allrounder, could miss the first 10 weeks of the season due to a back problem.
He is two weeks into a six-week rehabilitation programme, after which he will be carefully guided back to match fitness. Surrey have said it could be up to a further six weeks before Jordan is fit enough for selection, but he may be available within a fortnight of the rehab programme ending.
Barbados-born Jordan was troubled by the back problem last season after suffering a stress fracture earlier in his career. Chris Adams, the Surrey coach, said they will be patient with his recovery. "We`re working towards his career and improving his career from this point in time. He carries the tag of great potential. It`s been a really frustrating time for him, frustrating for us as well. We certainly want that talent out on the field.
"But let`s hope that we`ve finally got to the bottom of something. His bulging disc through this period will have time to rest but I`m quietly confident that we are doing everything we possibly can now."

day/night test cricket favored by steve waugh

Former Australia captain Steve Waugh has backed day/night cricket Tests and suggested some unorthodox tweaks to revive interest in one-dayers.

“I would have loved to play day/night Test cricket,” the Australian legend said in an interview show on Monday. “I think it is exciting, brings another dimension to the game.

“People want a bit of change, they want that excitement. Why not bring that into Test cricket? We have got it in Twenty20s. Let’s get a pink ball in and play a day/night Test if it is possible.”

Waugh, 44, said the concept needed to be thought through, however, since it wouldn’t work everywhere.

“Obviously in England it is not really possible because it doesn’t get dark till 10 o’clock in summer. Maybe in the subcontinent the dew might make it impossible. So you’ve got to have common sense around it as well.”

Waugh was optimistic about the future of Test cricket.

“Quality always survives,” he said. “As a cricketer I think you’ve got to be true to yourself.”

Pakistani Cricker Nasir Jamshed Released by court

A Pakistan court has released cricketer Nasir Jamshed on a surety bond of 20,000 rupees after he was arrested for cheating during a school exam.

Jamshed's lawyer Sardar Mohammad Sabir said Tuesday that criminal court judge Mohammad Jawad Alam Qureshi has accepted the bail of his client on a surety bond.

Jamshed, 20, was arrested in Lahore on Monday after being caught allegedly cheating while taking a ninth-grade English exam to pass higher secondary school.

The left-handed opening batsman played 12 one-day internationals and scored 353 runs, but has not featured in the national team since his last ODI against Sri Lanka at Dambulla last year.

He was also ignored by the Pakistan Cricket Board when it awarded central contracts to 37 players last month.
